Implicit Bias Statement
This course addresses how implicit bias may influence the development and use of artificial intelligence tools and structured documentation in the electronic health record. It highlights how biased data can lead to inequitable clinical decision support and patient outcomes and emphasizes the importance of designing informatics strategies that promote culturally responsive and equitable nursing care. Implicit bias, the unconscious attitudes or stereotypes that can affect our decisions, can influence both how AI systems are developed and how we as nurses interpret their outputs. Recognizing these biases in data and in ourselves is crucial to providing equitable culturally responsive care.
